A lesson for Saint Nicholas

Save the Children Romania (Salvati Copiii Romania) celebrated Saint Nicolas, on the 6th of December 2011, by bringing together children, parents, public persons, specialists in a move to convey a stronger message that children can be brought up without physical and verbal violence.

As the Romanian tradition says that Saint Nicolas brings gifts to good children and sticks to bad children, the participants talked about the importance of not using any form of violence against children in the education process.

They eventually broke a bunch of sticks, representing the "weapons" of Saint Nicolas and of certain parents and educators who misunderstand childhood. The general conclusion was that all children are good and that neither Saint Nicolas, nor other adults need to use threat or physical punishment against children.

The event was part of the campaign "Listen to the child's soul" ("Asculta-i sufletul") and was meant to endorse the "Manifesto against the violence on children" launched by Salvati Copiii.

Participants also signed the Manifesto.
